Memory Foam Mattress Topper
Memory Foam Toppers -- Comfort on a Budget
Sleep is a vital part of our lives. It is how our body gets time to repair itself. During this period of low physical activity, your body takes the opportunity to patch up damage to your body. Your brain also takes this time to process things on a subconscious level; this allows it to remember the important things and to discard the trivial ones. When you wake up from a good sleep spent in a memory foam mattress or pillow, you feel refreshed for these reasons. One of the best way to achieve better sleep is through the usage of memory foam mattress toppers.
A good sleep is critical to both physical and mental well-being. Sometimes, though, we sleep in ways that can cause damage to the body instead of helping it to heal. Have you ever woken up with a sore back or stiff neck? These are results of your body resting in less-than-optimal positions, as affected by what you are sleeping on. If your bed is too soft or too hard, misalignments of body parts can be caused by sinking too deeply or not deeply enough. In the interests of health, it is best to get a bed that sinks the right amount for different parts of the body.
Memory foam is the new “in” thing in mattresses. It shapes itself to the contours of your body, giving it the right amount of support across the entire contact surface. For example, your shoulders and hips would need more support because of the way they stick out, while your neck will require less support. With memory foam, your shoulders and hips sink in deep, and your neck sinks only a little; this keep your spine straight and prevent pain and stiffness. It gets the name “memory” because it can keep the shape of anything pressed into it for a short time.
This great material was invented by NASA. It was originally meant to be used in aircraft seats and spacecraft bunks, to increase survivability. Sadly, it did not make it into the space program. At the same time, the medical world was looking for an answer to bed sores. Bed sores are painful spots caused by lying down in one position for very long periods of time, as in the case of the paralyzed and seriously sick or injured.
Bony regions like the hips, shoulders, and knees suffered from blood loss due to pressure pinching off blood vessels. The doctors then heard of memory foam and thought that it could be the answer. It was, and soon the popularity of this new material spread outside of the medical realm. Consumers clamored for these amazing memory foam mattresses, and they soon went into commercial markets.
Memory foam mattresses are obviously the way to a good night’s sleep. But what if you can’t afford an entire mattress made of it? Not to worry, they come in toppers, too! memory foam toppers are large sheets of memory foam that are not as thick as mattresses but still provide a lot of that sought-after of support. They are called memory foam mattress toppers because, quite logically, you put them on top of your current mattress. They are made in standard mattress sizes, too. Now, who says you cannot get comfort on a budget?
